during times of stress?

It makes sense. If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or just plain stressed out, it is easy to overlook things. Decision-making can become rushed. Details are dropped. However, for those where stress seems to be an inevitable reality (and let’s be honest: that is probably most of us!), this is doing a true disservice to our employer or business and our families.

Below are 10 ways to reduce stress and get your brain back in working order!

1. Breathe deeply.

Be intentional about stopping and taking slow, deep breaths throughout the day. The oxygen to your brain–and the break–will do you good!

2. Go for a walk.

It is scientifically proven to boost your mood and reduce stress.

3. Sleep.

I think we’re all aware we need it, but most of us still don’t make it a priority. Lack of sleep can make stressful situations even more stressful, and cause us to make poor decisions.

4. Practice kindness.

Do something for someone else, whether it be a thank-you note showing gratitude for something someone has done for you, or a random act of kindness for a stranger. Thinking of someone else can boost your mood and relieve stress.

5. Drink (more) water.

Staying hydrated helps your brain to function, reduces false hunger cues, and keeps you healthy!

6. Listen to your favorite tunes.

Music can improve your mood and help you to relax .

7. Stop and smell the roses.

Pleasant smells can help you to relax and improve your mood (think the incense and candles used in massages and spas). Go out and literally smell the flowers, light a scented candle, or open a window and smell the spring air!

8. Practice gratitude.

Make a list of things you are thankful for. Add to it each day or week. Hang it in a prominent place and look back on everything you to be grateful for–often.

9. Admire beauty.

Look at some beautiful scenery, artwork, or photography.

10. Dance.

It is proven to reduce stress–and it is also great exercise!
